It is always interesting to listen to people’s comments and attitudes about communities.
Some people think their community has more problems than others. Other people figure it's always worse somewhere else.
In “The Last Lecture” Randy Pausch said “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”
The issues we talked about yesterday were essentially the same as they are at home. Some kids in trouble from drug or alcohol abuse. Some kids doing really well. Some kids looking for help.
One of the biggest issues, and its the same all over, is parents who think they are “helping” or “protecting” their kids by letting them drink or drug in the family home. What we are doing by letting them do that is allowing teens to develop a relationship with intoxication.
This always really interferes with the kids’ ability to grow up. It doesnt really matter what the drug is.
Regular intoxication changes personality development.
