Hope

I’m not sure if you have seen the Reality Series “The Ice Pilots” but that is who flew us into Hay River NWT last night. Life is an adventure.

Hayley and I have several talks scheduled for today, the Princess Alexandra Middle school, the Chief Sunrise School on the Katlodeeche Reserve, the Hay Rive Community Youth Centre and the Nats’ejee Keh Treatment Centre.

The more I do this kind of work the more I realize that people are the same in most ways, no matter where you are. There are always some cultural differences but at another level we are very similar. Understanding that many of the problems caused by substance abuse are biological, not moral or cultural, can go a long way in breaking down the stigma and shame that seem to go along with these problems.

Hopefully we can help a few people understand that and start to make some changes.

Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. Anne Lamott

Stay tuned......
