Fort Albany, Ontario

Fort Albany Ontario

I am heading back up to the community of Fort Albany Ontario. I was there two years ago and was impressed by the community’s dedication to improving themselves.

As is the case with a lot of the places I go it isn’t easy to get there.

There is no summer road into Fort Albany so it is fly in or boat in, I’m flying but its an overnight in Timmins, Ontario, then on to Fort Albany tomorrow morning. I looked around Timmins, couldn’t find Shania….

On the flight from Toronto to Timmins I had an interesting discussion with Rosalie from the Taykwa Tagamou Nation which is near Timmins. We both agreed that the majority of substance abuse problems are a result of some sort of pain, or at least that is their origin.

When the pain is historical the problems often become generational.

The substance abuse becomes and creates its own problems as well.

I’ll keep you updated during the week.
